Energy Efficient three bedroom home in Taupo
This energy-efficient three-bedroom home in Taupō was designed to deliver year-round comfort, even through the coldest winter months. Working alongside a passive design consultant, we helped create a home that stays warm, dry, and comfortable while performing well in all seasons.
To achieve the owners’ goal of a home that would rarely drop below 18 degrees, careful attention was given to materials, workmanship, insulation, airtightness, and ventilation. A high-performance heat recovery system was installed to help retain warmth in winter, reduce overheating in summer, and support a healthier indoor environment.
A key part of the project was achieving very low air leakage. The home reached an air change rate of 0.57 air changes per hour, an excellent result that sits within the benchmark commonly associated with Passive House performance. While the layout meant the home was not formally Certified Passive, it came very close, and the end result is a spacious, sun-filled home that performs exceptionally well.
This project gave us valuable hands-on experience in passive building principles, and we have carried those lessons into other homes we have built since. It also reflects the wider focus of Chamberlain Homes on building warmer, healthier, more energy-efficient homes with long-term comfort and value in mind.
